Canada teams secure Kazan 2015 spots after winning UANA Cup

Canada's men's and women's team have succesfully confirmed their qualification for the 2015 Kazan World Championships both winning the Americas continental UANA Cup at home in Markham, Ontario last week. The men topped Brazil 8-6 in the gold medal final while the women won a best-of-3 play-off with the Brazil women 2-1 to capture the gold medal. In the men's final on Sunday it was MVP Jared McElroy who scored 2 goals in a critical 0-3 run in the 4th quarter where Canada secured the 2-goal victory over the Brazilians who had held the hosts to a 4-4 draw in the team's match-up earlier the week. The Canada women meanwhile had to overcome a 10-9 defeat to Brazil in game 1 before a clear 10-4 response and 9-6 victory in game 3 confirmed their overall win, tournament gold medal and presence in Kazan next summer. The continental tournament served as qualification for the upcoming 2015 World Championships with men's and women's silver medallists Brazil also claiming their spot to join USA and Canada as Americas representatives. Both of teams USA had confirmed their presence in Kazan thanks to their performances in last year's World Cup and World League.
